The Polish government has passed into law mandatory chemical castration for some pedophiles. I know many people here in Canada that would applaud this decision, and I can understand why. I however completely disagree.
I have no sympathy for the actions of pedophiles. However, they are still people, and that I think the state should be above their actions. We want to end the behaviour, not the person. I understand the wave of unquestionnable hostility to these criminals, but for the Prime Minister to say
…he wanted obligatory castration for pedophiles, whom he branded ‘degenerates’. Tusk said he did not believe “one can use the term ‘human’ for such individuals, such creatures.”
Why stop there? Let’s just execute every priest who touches a little boy! Let’s just cut off the hands of thieves? Oh wait, we’re better than this.

I agree with you and disagree with the Polish government’s decision. Acting only on a physical aspect of this problem ignores the psycho-social aspects of pedophilia. Apparently the Czech Republic has a similar practice; however, they go as far as physical castration there.
Thanks for sharing this piece of news. I’ll bring it up in my Sexology Intervention class. We always share sexology news at the beginning of the class. It should get some reactions. I’ll be sure to let you know about them…

Funny story involving war world 2 (contradictory sentence?). Anyways..
My take on this would be the following : The solution of the problem is not in chemically altering the perpetrator, because once the harm is done, it is already done. Taking a step back and looking at the big picture would help out a bit more. Heres just an example of a solution, to rather condemn the offenders to go through psychological testing/ behavioural analasys testing
and to learn FROM the criminals (who are the best at what they do) a way to stop them from doing what they do. Enforced chemical induction of infertility (considered as a disease – reference http://www.diseasesdatabase.com/ddb21627.htm) breaks ethics laws. Something should be inforced upon them, I agree, but it should not be disease.
Cheers from Quebec Andrew.
